Tips for Oily/Combination Skin

Dealing with oily and combination skin can be a challenge. The excess sebum production can lead to a shiny complexion, enlarged pores, and frequent breakouts. However, with the right skincare routine, you can control oiliness, balance your skin, and achieve a healthy, radiant glow. Keep reading for some effective skincare tips specifically tailored for those with oily/combination skin to banish the shine and embrace the glow.

Cleanse twice a day gently, but thoroughly:

Proper cleansing is essential for oily/combination skin. Look for a gentle, non-comedogenic cleanser that effectively removes dirt, excess oil, and impurities without stripping away essential moisture. Opt for gel or foaming cleansers that contain ingredients like salicylic acid (Clarity Cleanse), tea tree oil, or witch hazel to combat oiliness and prevent breakouts. Remember to cleanse your face twice daily, morning and night, to maintain a fresh and clean canvas. You can opt for a gentler oat milk cleanser, like Milk Melt, in the mornings if you feel like a cleanser with active ingredients, like salicylic acid, is too much to use twice a day.

Hydrate and moisturise:

It's a common misconception that oily skin doesn't require moisturising. In fact, proper hydration is vital to balance oil production. Look for lightweight, oil-free, or water-based moisturisers that provide hydration without adding greasiness. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid (Mega Mist), niacinamide, and aloe vera are great choices for oily/combination skin. Applying a good moisturiser after cleansing and exfoliating will help keep your skin nourished and less prone to producing excess oil.

Exfoliate regularly:

Exfoliation is crucial for removing dead skin cells, unclogging pores, and reducing excess oil. Choose a chemical exfoliant such as alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs) rather than harsh physical scrubs, which can irritate the skin. AHAs like lactic acid (Day Glow) gently exfoliate the skin's surface, while BHAs like salicylic acid penetrate the pores, preventing acne and blackheads. Start with exfoliating once or twice a week and gradually increase frequency based on your skin's tolerance.

Use non-comedogenic products:

When selecting skincare and cosmetic products, it's crucial to opt for non-comedogenic options. Non-comedogenic products are specifically formulated to not clog the pores, reducing the risk of acne and breakouts. Look for labels that indicate "non-comedogenic" or "won't clog pores" when choosing cleansers, moisturisers, suncreams, and makeup. These products are designed to allow your skin to breathe while providing the necessary hydration and protection.

Incorporate sebum balancing oils:

Contrary to popular belief, certain oils can actually help balance sebum production in oily/combination skin. When applied topically, CBD oil, such as our CBD Booster, can help regulate sebum production, reduce inflammation, and promote overall skin balance. As with any new product, it's important to patch test and observe how your skin reacts before incorporating it fully into your routine.

Sun protection is a must:

Regardless of your skin type, sun protection should never be overlooked. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. Look for lightweight formulas that won't clog your pores or leave a greasy residue like Day Defence. Regular use of sunscreen will protect your skin from harmful UV rays, prevent premature aging, and even out your skin tone.

Caring for oily/combination skin requires a consistent skincare routine tailored to address specific concerns. By following these skincare tips, incorporating non-comedogenic products, and prioritising sun protection, you can achieve a healthy, balanced complexion and bid farewell to excessive oiliness, breakouts, and shine. Allow time for your skin to adjust to new products, but remain consistent, and you'll be well on your way to clear, glowing skin.
