Skincare in your thirties for under $30
The key to great skin in your thirties, forties and beyond is understanding that your skin changes as you age. We don’t love the idea of skin “types” here at BYBI because it doesn’t account for the fact that your skin changes. There are many things that cause this change; hormones, weather and diet to name a few, but one longer term factor that we have no control over whatsoever is your age. It’s important to accept that your skin changes as you age and update your skincare routine accordingly, to make sure you continue supporting your skin health and needs. My skin “type” back when I was 16 was combination; very oily around my cheeks and nose but dry everywhere else. Fast forward to my twenties and a change in diet (read: booze) caused bouts of adult acne coupled with severe patches of dryness. Now I’m in my thirties things have definitely levelled out but I’ve noticed that overall my skin gets very dry very easily and I’ve really started to noticed textural changes as well as lines and dullness.
But just because you’re in your thirties, doesn’t mean you suddenly want to start breaking the bank on jargon-filled skincare products that promise to reverse your complexion back to the glory days of your teens. The skincare industry has got us thirty-somethings in a marketing headlock; throw in the words “anti-ageing” (horrible term, we should never be anti ageing - it’s natural!), “wrinkles”, “fine lines” or “sagging” and it seems that product is suddenly worth double. We believe at BYBI that enriching natural ingredients are the key to good skin health no matter what your age, and monitoring the changes in your skin and updating your products accordingly will keep it feeling great. It doesn’t mean suddenly having to invest in a night cream marketed at “ageing” skin, it’s more about recognising if your skin feels drier/rougher/uneven as you get older and looking for ingredients that help combat that. We’ve got you covered at BYBI, and it’s all for under $30!
So what kind of thing happens to cause your skin to change as you hit your thirties, forties and beyond?
Your skin slows down in production of things that keep it looking fresh, healthy and quite literally bouncy - things like collagen, natural oils and hyaluronic acid. This means skin in your thirties and forties can feel rough and it’s normal for it to become drier as you age, plus changes in your hormones also typically lead to less skin hydration too.
Changes in your body in different times of your life - pregnancy, weight loss or gain, menopause, can cause textural changes to your skin, as will environmental stressors such as UVA/UVB damage and pollution. UVA/UVB damage will really be the main reason that you see things like wrinkles which become more pronounced as you get older because you’ve been exposed more to them and your skin has less ability to deal with their effects. Changes in hormones can also cause things like dullness and puffiness.
BYBI for over thirties, under $30
Blueberry Booster | $14.99
Blue light is an environmental cause of changes in your skin as you age. Much like the damage caused by UVA/UVB, blue light causes stressors that your skin is less able to deal with the older you get, meaning you feel the effects more as you age. Blue light can also penetrate your skin deeper than UVA/UVB, so the textural changes you’ll see can we worse. Blueberry Booster helps to shield and deflect blue light and should be applied every day.
Mega Mist Hyaluronic Acid Face Mist | $26.99
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a compound that attracts and retains moisture but your body’s ability to produce it slows as you age. A spritz of Mega Mist onto damp skin will help increase hydration levels, so is great if you’ve found it’s got drier as you’ve got older. The moisture it attracts to your skin also acts as a plumping agent, filling out things like fine lines (if they’re a concern to you).
Bakuchiol Booster | $14.99
Your body’s collagen production slows down as you age too, and collagen is responsible for the structure of your skin feeling firm and bouncy. This means you’ll likely experience your skin feeling looser and not as soft. Bakuchiol helps stimulate collagen production and is often compared to retinol, just with none of the negative side effects. It’s great if you’ve noticed that your skin has really changed texturally as you’ve got older.
