Ingredient Spotlight: Caffeine and Matcha

Caffeine is an antioxidant rich ingredient that protects skin against photodamage. It also has a constricting effect which plumps skin, decreases puffiness and reduces redness. Caffeine also has diuretic properties which also helps to deflate puffiness, increase circulation and minimise dark circles that form under the eyes.

Additionally, caffeine also provides antioxidant benefits that aid in the reduction of photo-ageing and protection from other aggressors- such as pollution.

Matcha is derived from the plant camellia sinensis. It is an amazing ingredient as it is full of polyphenols, the main one being epigallocatechin gallate (ECGC). These polyphenols are free radical scavengers, that have skin softening properties and can also diminish the appearance of pores. It's also full of proanthocyanidins; these are potent antioxidants which are twenty times more powerful than vitamin C and fifty times more powerful than vitamin E1.

These antioxidants play a key role in maintaining the integrity of collagen and elastin by protecting the skin from environmental stressors and improving the strength of blood capillaries. This improved strength can reduce the leaking of blood that contributes to darkening of skin, especially skin that is thinner e.g. the skin around your eyes.

Caffeine and matcha can be found in C-Caf Cream, our new energising and hydrating moisturiser suitable for all skin types.
