How To Take The Perfect Shelfie: A Guide

Nothing gets us more excited than a good shelfie here at BYBI. Perhaps it's how aesthetically- and OCD-pleasing an organised cabinet looks. Maybe it's the beauty junkie in us revelling in the array of beauty products. Or perhaps it's the fact that our products look undeniably amazing in any shelfie (wink wink).

Whatever the reason, we can't deny that the shelfie trend is dominating Instagram. Influencers left, right and centre are posting drool-worthy shots of their collection, and of course every beauty junkie out there wants to take a gorgeous snap of their own.

But how do you actually take a really good shelfie? We asked shelfie guru Matt, of @dirtyboysgetclean fame, to give us a quick lowdown to his beauty shoot secrets:

 

Hi Matt! What's the key ingredient to a great shelfie?

Of course, a great shelf/cabinet is essential. Products can be like a puzzle, you have to know where to place everything!

If someone is new to the shelfie game, what top tip would you give them?

Have fun with it; it should not be a chore. Try to be unique so that your image stands out against the thousands of other shelfies.

Let's talk lighting, how serious is your set up?

I have a few different types of lights that I use. I used sunlight a lot in the beginning but artificial lighting is so convenient. Who has the time to wait around for the sunlight to be perfect?

We (obviously) love the pink. Is that your chosen aesthetic or driven purely by the millennial pink frenzy?

Actually, I have loved pink ever since I was a child. But I suppressed it for a long time because I thought people would judge me for loving pink as a male. Pink just makes everyone happy!
