How to combat maskne

Maskne, aka, mask acne is a skin condition caused by wearing face masks - very 2020. Wearing a face mask daily is part of our new normal and we're wholeheartedly embracing it (obv) - we're just not that keen on the spots, congestion, redness and inflammation that it can bring.

Unlike its close companion, acne, maskne is directly linked to wearing a face mask and can impact anyone, causing angry breakouts around the mouth, chin and nose.

Here’s a few tips on how to combat maskne for clearer and calmer skin:

  • Got a hot, sweaty mask? Us too. We're a fan of reusable face masks, but make sure to clean them regularly to prevent blemish-causing bacteria and dead skin cells building up. Chuck 'em in the wash or simply place in boiling water and air dry after use. Make sure your mask is also a good fit, anything too tight will only aggravate your skin further by causing micro-tears.
BYBI Swipe Clean & Crystal Clear
  • Use a decongesting cleanser like Crystal Clear to reduce blackheads and keep skin feeling fresh. It contains salicylic acid which helps cleanse deep into pores, preventing that feeling of clogged, uncomfortable skin. Crystal Clear is best used as a second cleanse, after removing makeup with Swipe Clean, so it can really get to work on your skin.
  • Put your skin barrier first, hydrate and moisturise twice daily. Plumping Mega Mist and nourishing Babe Balm are perfect for this. Mega Mist uses hyaluronic acid to draw moisture into the skin, whilst Babe Balm helps protect skin by keeping it soft and supple. A strong and healthy skin barrier is more resilient to stressors such as an irritating face mask.
